Quilt Block Series – Joining Quilt Blocks

Hello, hello! Well this post is a long time coming isn’t it! February 19th 2023 is when the first video was put onto Youtube. So we’re well over a year and half. I promise, this quilt top doesn’t take that long to sew, it’s just been put off so many times for other projects or other jobs that it’s taken an age. I do apologise. And when we start next years series, I’ll make sure they’re all filmed in advance!

Make sure you watch the previous video in teh series so that all your blocks are nicely squared up before you move on to this one. It’s a very simple process but remember there are people out there who have never made a quilt, so bare that in mind when leaving comments!

The video is at the bottom of the page, but here’s the transcript for those of you who want to translate.

Hey! Today we’re going to join together the quilt blocks we’ve spent the last few weeks constructing. You will need to have squared up your blocks as accurately as possible – If you haven’t yet done this, go back and take a look at the previous video. I’ll add a link in the description.

Lay out your quilt blocks to figure out what order you want them to go together in. We’ll start by joining the top row together.

Lay block two right sides together with block one.

Sew down the right hand side using a ¼” seam allowance.

Press the seam open.

Repeat this to add block three to the end.

Do this for the other rows.

Once you have all the rows ready, we’re going to join them together.

We need to ensure that the seams are all sat together properly. Take a pin and pop it through the seam where two blocks join.

Now pop that through the same seam on the next row, the rows should be right side together here.

With that pinned in place, move to the next seam and do the same thing.

If your blocks are trimmed properly the seams should sit perfectly together.

Once pinned, sew across that edge. Then open up the seam and press.

Continue doing this until all the rows are joined.

And there you have it, finally… a quilt top! All ready to quilt!
